For more than 140 years, Ruffino has been focusing on achieving top-quality Tuscan wines through the careful selection of vineyards, grape varieties, and modern cellar techniques. The winery was founded in 1877 by cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, with the objective of creating "the ideal wine," a Chianti that could age and be sold internationally. Success was immediate, and in 1890, Ruffino was appointed by the Duke of Aosta as the official wine supplier to the Royal Court of Savoy, the Kings of Italy. In 1927, a selection of wine that had been reserved for the duke was labeled for the first time as Riserva Ducale. Today, Ruffino's mastery in winemaking is showcased through a unique and innovative portfolio of Italian wines.
