Following success in Barolo, the Gagliardo family acquired Tenuta Garetto in 2017 after years of searching for the ideal site. Their roots date to 1847, when the Colla family began farming vineyards in Piedmont's Langhe. In 1973, Gianni Gagliardo took over, and today his sons Stefano, Alberto, and Paolo lead the sixth generation, overseeing both Barolo and Barbera estates. Piedmont's Barbera wines are known for deep color, full body, low tannins, and bright acidity. Tenuta Garetto, with vines dating to 1935, lies in Agliano Terme at the heart of the Nizza DOCG, an exclusive appellation producing structured, age-worthy wines. The family has also invested in Timorasso, a rare white grape from Colli Tortonesi. Known as Derthona, these wines are complex, mineral-driven, and age-worthy, making Timorasso one of Italy's most exciting white wine projects today.
